Presentation
On 20 April 1792, Revolutionary France declared war on Austria. The mayor of Strasbourg commissioned Captain Rouget de Lisle to compose a march for the troops garrisoned in his city. Overnight, the officer wrote a war song for the Army of the Rhine. Adopted by the volunteer soldiers of southern France, the song was renamed La Marseillaise, and was orchestrated by Hector Berlioz during the Revolution of 1830. Come and sing this internationally recognized anthem with the OnR Chorus and Berlioz’s full orchestra!
