Presentation
"La Princesse arabe" is our second musical story of the season aimed at young audiences. Experience the epic love story between poor fish vendor Jamil and beautiful princess Amirah. To everyone's surprise, one day the Princess decides to marry this young have-not, whom she never met before, just because he has an irressistible voice. Jamil agrees to marry her only, if she promises never to make fun of his poor background, or he will disappear forever. Of course she does, but their love finally overcomes all that seems to stand against them. This collage of pieces by the "Spanish Mozart" Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga (1806 -1826) was realized by Anna-Sophie Brüning and is the debut of stage director Benoît De Leersnyder at the OnR. This opera premiered in Ramallah in 2009, played by the young orchestra of the Barenboim-Said Foundation.
