Fleur Barron

Hailed by the Boston Globe as a "charismatic star" and by Opera News as a "striking looking young woman with an intriguingly dark and complex mezzo," Fleur Barron was awarded the 2016 Grace B. Jackson Prize for Excellence by the Tanglewood Music Festival, given to one outstanding young singer each year, and the 1st Prize in the 2013 Liederkranz Competition, resulting in her Carnegie Hall recital debut.

Higlights in the 2018-2019 season include Baba the Turk/ The Rake's Progress at La Monnaie, Olga/ Eugene Onegin with Opéra de Toulon; Balkis in Offenbach's Barkouf with Opéra National du Rhin, Maddalena/ Rigoletto with Northern Ireland Opera, and Marguerite/ La Damnation de Faust at the St Endellion Festival. On the concert

platform Fleur tours with the Orchestre Regional de Normandie in Pergolesi/Handel concerts, will be artist-in-residence at the Ojai Music Festival (U.S.), performing works by Stravinsky and Ives with the LUDWIG Orchestra under the helm of Barbara Hannigan, and continues her collaboration with pianist Julius Drake in recitals in

Spain and the U.K. Fleur presents additional recitals at Oxford Lieder Festival, Two Moors Festival, Purbeck

Chamber Music Festival, Blackheath Halls, and Sarasota Concert Series (U.S.). She also sees the release of her first professional recording on the Resonus Classics label of chamber works with the Berkeley Ensemble. Future

seasons include debuts with Opérade Monte-Carlo, Orchestre Symphonique de Toulon, and returns to Aldeburgh Festival and Festival d'Aix in leading roles.

The 2017- 2018 season featured a house and role debut as Fenena/ Nabucco with Opéra National de Montpellier for which she was hailed as the "revelation of the evening" by Olyrix and as a "superb Fenena with a magnetic stage presence" by Classique News. Further debuts included 1st Witch/ Dido and Aeneas with Festival d'Aix en Provence,and Opéra Comique as the title role (cover) in Purcell's Miranda, directed by Katie Mitchell, and the title role/ La Cenerentola with Diva Opera (U.K.). Concert engagements included alto soloist with BBC Symphony Orchestra at

the Barbican in Bernstein's Songfest; multiple recitals with pianist Julius Drake; a recital with cellist Natalie Clein; a recital debut at the 2018 Aldeburgh Festival with pianist Jonathan Ware; and a recital with Barbara Hannigan for France Musique. In the summer of 2017 Fleur participated both in the prestigious Mozart Residency of the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and in the Britten Pears Young Artist Programme at Snape Maltings.

In the 2016-2017 season Fleur received critical acclaim for singing the role of Anna I and simultaneously dancing

the role of Anna II in Kurt Weill's Die sieben Todsünden (The Seven Deadly Sins) at the Tanglewood Music Festival,where she also performed the alto solos in Bach Cantata BWV116 and Messiaen's Harawi. As a young artist with Palm Beach Opera, Fleur bowed as Mercedes/Carmen, Dryade/Ariadne auf Naxos and Pepa/Goyescas (Granados),

while covering the title role in Carmen. Additional performances that season included Zulma/ L'Italiana in Algeri

with Sarasota Opera, and the alto solos in Beethoven's 9th Symphony and Choral Fantasy with the Flint Symphony Orchestra (Michigan).

Fleur is mentored by Barbara Hannigan. She holds a Master’s degree from Manhattan School of Music and a B.A. in Comparative Literature with highest honours from Columbia University. Born in Ireland and raised in Hong Kong, London and New York, Fleur is currently based in London.
