Commissioned by the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra (NTR) for its "ZaterdagMatinee" series performed at Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, this work by composer Zad Moultaka was devised and recorded in 2007 by the NTR and Schönberg Ensemble under the baton of Simon Halsey. Inspired by excerpts from the English-language version of Etel Adnan's epic poem The Arab Apocalypse, and passages from the Book of Revelation, and Psalms from the Old Testament, Our - meaning city in Aramaic - is remarkable for its depth and for its capacity to occupy a soundspace inhabited by seemingly archaic melodies, images from childhood as well as ancient worlds, allusions to the violence on which monotheistic religions are built. This recording of Our, which promises a powerful musical experience, has not been broadcast since 2007.
