Europe and India: between representation and projection
What do we know about the first Westerners' understanding when in the early 16th century they discovered this fantastic new world? What representations will arise from it in European courts? Which opinion the indigenous populations had of these Europeans who came from elsewhere and settled in the trading posts that Portuguese, then British, Dutch and French developed?
Come and meet Professor Sanjay Subrahmanyam, author of many remarkable books and essays that advocate the concept of a connected history. He is also a teacher of Indian history both at the Collège de France and the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA).
