Markus Marquardt

This German artist is a privileged interpreter of the Italian and German repertoire. After being a member of the Stuttgart Opera, he joined the Semperoper Dresden ensemble, where he sang the roles of Wotan (Das Rheingold), Wanderer (Siegfried), Dr Schön (Lulu), Jochanaan (Salome), Figaro ( Le nozze di Figaro), Leporello (Don Giovanni), Giorgio Germont (La traviata), Colline (La Bohème), Scarpia (Tosca), Alfio (Cavalleria Rusticana), Tonio (Pagliacci), Orest (Elektra), Peter (Hänsel und Gretel), Iago (Otello), Créon (Oedipus Rex), Sprecher (Die Zauberflöte), Pizzaro (Fidelio) and the title roles of Cardillac, Macbeth, der fliegende Holländer, Rigoletto and Mathis der Maler. His recent engagements included the roles of Wotan with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Vladimir Jurowski, Jaroslav Prus (The Makropoulos Affair) at the Wiener Staatsoper, the Dutchman at the Wiener Volksoper, Scarpia in Toronto, Rigoletto, Nabucco, Amfortas and Jochanaan in Stuttgart, Gurrelieder in Amsterdam and Carmina Burana with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Fabio Luisi. He also sang Don Fernando (Fidelio) and Doktor (Wozzeck) at La Scala in Milan, Salome and Cardillac at Staatsoper Wien, at San Carlo in Naples and Oper Köln, Wotan and Nabucco in Leipzig, Amonasro (Aida), the title role by Gianni Schicchi in Düsseldorf and Count Adorno (Die Gezeichneten) at the Opéra national de Lyon. He has performed under the direction of conductors such as Christian Thielemann, Fabio Luisi, Franz Welser-Möst, Jakob Hrůša, Marc Albrecht, Sylvain Cambreling, Tomas Netopil, Cornelius Meister, Alexander Joel, Sebastian Weigle, Markus Poschner, Ulf Schirmer, Asher Fisch, Peter Schneider, Massimo Zanetti, Michael Boder and the directors Peter Stein, Nikolaus Lehnhoff, Stefan Herheim, Philipp Himmelmann, Peter Mussbach, Richard Jones, Johannes Schaaf, Tatjana Gürbaca, Jossi Wieler and Sergio Morabito and Achim Freyer. During this season he sang Scarpia, Pizarro, Rigoletto, Le Grand Macabre by Ligeti and the world premiere of Die andere Frau by Torsten Rasch in Dresden. He returned to the Volksoper Wien for Fliegende Holländer. He made his debut at the OnR.
