Biography

He studied orchestral conducting at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan, composition at the Padua Conservatory and then continued his studies under the aegis of Franco Ferrara at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. He appeared on the posters of the Operas of Vienna, Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Brussels, Paris, Monte-Carlo, Buenos Aires, Tokyo, Venice, Bologna, Barcelona, Lisbon, at the festivals of Verona, Torre del Lago, Pesaro ... In the symphonic domain, he conducted the London Philharmonic, the Academy of St-Martin in the Fields, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Berlin, the RAI Torino Orchestra, the Orchester de Paris, the Orchester de la Bayerischer Rundfunk, the Orchester de la Suisse Romande ... President since 1990 of the "I Solisti Veneti"; from 1998 to 2003 he was Musical Director at the Verona Arena then Musical Director of the Toulon Opera. Its repertoire includes the most important Italian and French operas, from Giovanni Paisiello to contemporaries. He has directed numerous recordings: Elisabetta Regina by Inghilterra, Adelaide di Borgogna by Rossini, Il diluvio universale by Donizetti, L'esule di Granata and Le Prophète by Meyerbeer. Recently he has conducted Les Vêpres siciliennes et Stiffelio in Frankfurt, Rigoletto, I Puritani and Ariodante in Stuttgart, L'Italiana in Algeri and Semiramide in Marseille, Le Prophète in Essen, Gianni Schicchi in Madrid, Il trittico and Madama Butterfly in Copenhagen, Carmen in Dresden, Tancredi in Brussels and Marseille, Roberto Devereux in Frankfurt, Romeo and Juliet in Montreal. In project: Simon Boccanegra in Tel-Aviv, Giovanna d'Arco in Brussels, I puritani in Marseille, Bianca e Falliero in Frankfurt. He has directed numerous productions at the OnR, including Lucia di Lammermoor in 2007, Falstaff in 2009 and Francesca da Rimini in 2017-18.
