Biography
He began his career in 1991 with the English National Opera team. From 1994 to 1998, he was choir director at Glyndebourne before embarking on an international career, invited to European operatic stages such as the Staatsoper Berlin or the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. He conducted a repertoire ranging from Monteverdi, Handel and Mozart to Britten's Turn of the Nut as well as contemporary works such as Birtwistle's Punch and Judy. He very often directs the baroque repertoire. In 2015, he conducted L'Orfeo by Monteverdi at the Royal Opera House in London. More recently he conducted Semele at the Handel-Festspiele in Karlsruhe, La Calisto in Munich and Dido and Aeneas in Madrid, also presented at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Israel, the Sydney Festival and the Rome Opera. He was invited to the Moscow Bolshoi for Rodelinda, and by the Musica Viva Chamber Orchestra of Moscow for Handel's Ottone. In the United States, he conducted Semele at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York. In concert, he conducted phalanges such as the Akademie Für Alte Musik Berlin, Concerto Köln, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Mozarteum of Salzburg, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Wiener Symphoniker, Concentus Musicus Wien and Kammerakademie of Potsdam. He conducted La Clémence de Titus at the Salzburg Festival with the Wiener Philharmoniker, and took part in the Bregenz Festival and the Handel Festspiele in Halle. Recently he conducted Alcina at the Hamburg Staatsoper, a Handel cycle (Giulio Cesare, Tamerlano and Rodelinda) in Moscow. He returned to the Staatsoper in Berlin for Dido and Aeneas and to San Francisco for Orlando. He led Ariodante in Stuttgart, King Arthur in Basel and Dresden. He made his debut at the OnR.
