Biography
Countertenor Christopher Lowrey, originally from the United States, holds degrees with distinction from Brown University, the University of Cambridge, and the Royal College of Music International Opera School.
Christopher has worked with such celebrated conductors as William Christie, Vladimir Jurowski, Laurence Cummings, Richard Egarr, Christian Curnyn, Stephen Layton, Masaaki Suzuki, Martin Pearlman, Leonardo García-Alarcón, Christopher Moulds, Paul Agnew, David Bates, Roberto Abbado and Erin Helyard, performing throughout Europe, the US and Australia with many leading ensembles.
His recent roles include; Rodelinda (Unulfo) for English National Opera, Brett Dean's Hamlet (Guildenstern) for Glyndebourrne Festival, Handel Saul (David) for the Adelaide Festival, Britten A Midsummer Night's Dream (Oberon) at both the Grand Théâtre de Genève and the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia, the title roles in Handel The Choice of Hercules and Solomon with The English Concert at the Britten Theatre in London, Handel Faramondo (Gernando) at the Brisbane Baroque Festival and the Göttingen Handel Festival, Monteverdi Orfeo (Pastore/Speranza) at the Royal Opera House, Monteverdi Il ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria (L'humana fragilità) with Boston Baroque, and the modern premiere of Cavalli Elena (Discordia/Euripilo/Polluce) at the Aix-en-Provence Festival.
Performances in the 2017/18 season include; Bach Cantatas at the Philharmonie de Paris with Ensemble Pygmalion, Brett Dean's Hamlet (Guildenstern) for the Adelaide Festival, Handel Arminio (title role) for the Göttingen Handel Festival, Handel Rinaldo (Argante) with Les Talens Lyriques at Theater Basel, and a concert tour of Pergolesi Stabat Mater with soprano Sandrine Piau and Les Talens Lyriques.
