Biography
He studied violin in Trondheim, then conducted in Stockholm with Jorma Panula and in Vienna with Leopold Hager. He took part in the Aspen Music Festival with David Zinman and in master classes with Kurt Masur in Poland and New York. He was invited to conduct orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Munich Philharmonic, the Royal Stockholm and the Dutch Radio Philharmonic, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Kristiansand Synfonieorkester, the Orchester de Paris, the WDR Symphony Orchestra and the Tonhalle Orchester de Zurich. He has worked with soloists such as Leif Ove Andsnes, Truls Mørk, Alice Sara Ott, Javier Perianes, Hélène Grimaud, Gautier Capuçon, Sol Gabetta, Alban Gerhardt, Hilary Hahn, Gabriela Montero, Emmanuel Pahud, Yefim Bronfman, Alexander Toradze and Vadim Repin, Viktoria Mullova, Renaud Capuçon, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Mari Eriksmoen, Charlotte Hellekant, Albert Dohmen. As for the operas he conducted Rusalka at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, Tosca at the Vienna State Opera, The Flying Dutchman at the Lille Opera, Rusalka at the Rome Opera, Jenufa at the English National Opera, Il corsaro and Rusalka at the Zurich Opera House, Fidelio with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and at the Baden-Baden Festival as well as Rusalka, Eugène Onéguine and La Bohème at the Norwegian Opera. He returned to Vienna for Rusalka and to Lille for Die Zauberflöte. He conducted the world premiere of Waiting (Solveig) at the Bergen Festival. He was appointed general and artistic director of the Bergen National Opera in 2021 and will be responsible for both the lyric and the symphony. He recently conducted Oedipus Rex in Helsinki, Tosca in Rouen and concerts in Minnesota, Odense and Tampere, Tenerife, Seville, Oslo, Lisbon and Poznan. He made his debut on the OnR
