Biografie
Der Amerikaner Bryan Arias wurde in Puerto Rico geboren. Als er neun Jahre alt war, zog seine Familie nach New York. Seine Tanzausbildung in klassischem Ballett und zeitgenössischem Tanz begann er an der La Guardia High School for the Performing Arts. Nach seiner Ausbildung zum professionellen Tanzer trat er mit dem Complexions Contemporary Ballet auf, bevor er Mitglied des renommierten Nederlands Dans Theater in Den Haag wurde. Seit fünf Jahren tanzt Bryan Arias in Crystal Pites Kompanie Kidd Pivot, die in Vancouver, Kanada stationiert ist. Er hat in Werken wichtiger Choreografen wie Jiři Kylian, Ohad Naharin u.a. mitgewirkt. Neben seiner Tatigkeit als Tanzer ist Bryan Arias auch als Choreograf weltweit unterwegs. Für seine Choreografie ≪Without Notice≫ erhielt er den 1.Preis bei der Sixth Copenhagen International Choreography Competition (CICC). Er gewann das Hubbard Street Dance International Commission Project. Als Choreograf arbeitete er bereits für die Hubbard Street Dance Company 2, das Nederlands Dans Theater 2, das Ballett Vorpommern und The Scottish Ballet. Bryan Arias gründete im Jahr 2013 die ARIAS Company. Fur das Luzerner Theater choreografierte er 2017 das Stück ≪Viewpoints≫, das im Rahmen des Ballettabends ≪Tanz 24: Timeless≫ gezeigt wurde. Das Stuck ≪this is everything≫ ist seine erste Arbeit für das Ensemble des Ballett Theater Basel.
Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Bryan moved with his family to New York City at the age of nine. While growing up Bryan was exposed to many urban and social dance styles, receiving his formal dance training at La Guardia High School for the Performing Arts.
As a dancer, Bryan went on to perform with Complexions Contemporary Ballet, before moving to Holland to join The Netherlands Dance Theater (NDT), and most recently with Crystal Pite’s company Kidd Pivot. He has originated roles in and performed in works by notable choreographers including Jirí Kylián, Ohad Naharin and Crystal Pite.
As a choreographer, Bryan is the recipient of the First Place and Audience Choice awards for his work Without Notice at the Sixth Copenhagen International Choreography Competition (CICC), winner of the Hubbard Street Dance International Commission Project, nominated for the Rolex mentor and protégé award, and a 2017 winner of the Princess Grace Choreography Fellowship Award. He has choreographed for Hubbard Street 2, Netherlands Dance Theater 2, Ballet Vorpommern (Germany), The Scottish Ballet, Tanz Lucerne Theater and Ballet Theater Basel (Switzerland). In september 2017, Bryan premiered „this is everything”, created for Ballet Theater Basel.
